El divisor de voltaje es un arreglo de resistencias en serie que permite establecer un valor de voltaje en un punto en específico. Un divisor de voltaje es un circuito básico que por sí solo no tiene mucho sentido. Sin embargo, cuando lo combinamos con otros circuitos puede ser fundamental para que este otro funcione.

Para determinar el voltaje de salida Vout, vamos a analizar el circuito con la famosa Ley de Ohm la cual dice que:
“La intensidad de corriente que atraviesa un circuito es directamente proporcional al voltaje de este e inversamente proporcional a la resistencia que presenta”
Expresada matemáticamente, sería:
Entonces, nuestro circuito quedaría así:
Puedes notar que la corriente Ix es la misma para las resistencias RA y RB, así que por la ley de Ohm podemos determinar dicha corriente, que es la corriente dada por Vin y por la resistencia total del circuito. Es decir, RA y RB en serie.
Ahora podemos notar que el voltaje Vout esta dado por la corriente que pasa por RB, que sería la corriente Ix y por la misma resistencia RB.
Ahora tenemos dos expresiones para la corriente Ix, por lo tanto, podemos igualar ambas expresiones.
Finalmente, despejamos el voltaje Vout porque es el valor que nos interesa para obtener la expresión del divisor de voltaje:
Ya vimos el diagrama del divisor de voltaje y sus fundamentos matemáticos con los cuales podemos determinar el valor aproximado del voltaje de salida.
Sin embargo, no es tan fácil como se pinta, porque la idea de este circuito es establecer un valor de voltaje constante y en la mayoría de ocasiones si se conectan más componentes a la salida del divisor de voltaje puede que nos alteren la salida de este.
Supongamos que tenemos el siguiente divisor de voltaje (Ya con sus valores calculados, con la ecuación que determinamos hace un momento) y conectamos un circuito llamado “Circuito de carga” el cual para este ejemplo, debe ser alimentado con una fuente de 3.7V porque de lo contrario no funcionaria.
Puedes ver que si aplicas la ecuación de divisor de voltaje, efectivamente la salida es de 3.7V aproximadamente.
Pero hay un problema, el circuito de carga tiene una resistencia de entrada de 560 Ohms, esto afecta al divisor de voltaje, haciendo que deje de funcionar. ¿Por qué? Veamos porque:
Si sustituimos el circuito de carga por su resistencia equivalente (una resistencia de 560 Ohms) nos quedaría un circuito así:
Ahora puedes ver que la resistencia de 2K y 560 se encuentran en paralelo y si realizamos el cálculo de la resistencia en paralelo de estas dos obtenemos el siguiente valor:

Como puedes ver, un mal acople de impedancias entre la salida y entrada de dos circuitos pueden perjudicar en el funcionamiento. Por lo tanto, para utilizar adecuadamente un divisor de voltaje no basta con calcular correctamente el valor de las resistencias y el voltaje de salida, también debes considerar la resistencia del circuito de carga.
La solución a este problema es que tu circuito de carga tenga una resistencia muy grande (Idealmente una resistencia infinita, pero eso no existe), parece algo complicado de entender, pero mira; te lo demuestro a continuación:
