Las resistencias dependientes de luz, fotorresistores o LDR, son componentes electrónicos pasivos utilizados para detectar luz y cambiar el funcionamiento de un circuito en función de los niveles de detección.
El nombre LDR proviene de su abreviatura en inglés “Light Dependent Resistor” que traducido a español sería Resistencia Dependiente de Luz.

La pista similar a una serpiente es la encargada de la detección de luz, es una película de sulfuro de cadmio (CdS) que también pasa por los lados. Además, en la parte superior e inferior hay películas de metal que están conectadas a las terminales del LDR.

Cuando la luz llega a la parte sensible del LDR, los valores de resistencia caen a medida que aumenta el nivel de luz. En la oscuridad la resistencia varía en el orden de Kilo Ohmios y algunos modelos hasta los Mega Ohmios y caen a unos pocos cientos de Ohmios ante la presencia de luz.

El símbolo LDR utilizado en los circuitos electrónicos se basa en el símbolo del circuito de resistencia, pero muestra la luz en forma de flechas que brillan sobre él.
